Funeral Service Director

Position Summary:
As a Funeral Service Director, you will lead and manage all aspects of funeral services in alignment with our commitment to providing exemplary service. You will handle transportation of the deceased and assist in preparing them for family viewings.

Essential Functions:

  1. Organize and oversee every detail of funerals including flowers, pallbearers, officiants, service order, vehicles, and music.
  2. Provide compassionate counseling to families regarding merchandise, obituaries, and navigating their grief, adhering to arrangement office training procedures.
  3. Support the sale of prearranged funerals by addressing inquiries and collaborating with the sales team.
  4. Manage clerical and record-keeping tasks related to all funeral operations.
  5. Transport deceased individuals with professionalism.
  6. Assist in dressing and applying cosmetics to create an appropriate appearance for viewings.
  7. Handle transportation of the deceased to destinations outside of the state as needed.

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a welcoming environment in the funeral home for families and the community.
  2. Order merchandise as necessary.
  3. Coordinate services with cemeteries and grave openers.
  4. Warmly greet visitors and the public.
  5. Engage with the community through involvement in local events and speaking engagements.
  6. Exhibit a professional demeanor at all times.
  7. Assist management in various operational tasks as required.

Supervisory Responsibility:
You will direct and coordinate the work of part-time staff when necessary.

Qualification Requirements:

Education or Experience:
A high school diploma with additional training in funeral services is required.

Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret various technical documents and regulations. Proficient in writing reports and correspondence and effectively presenting information to management, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:
Competence in basic arithmetic operations.

Reasoning Ability:
Adept at solving practical problems and navigating diverse situations with minimal standardization. Ability to interpret various types of instructions.

Other Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive understanding of funeral services, including embalming and cosmetology, alongside basic office procedures and equipment operation. Strong organizational and prioritization skills are essential.

Other Requirements:
Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate disposition to support families in grief. State registration and certification as a funeral director is necessary. A valid driver's license is required.

Physical Demands:
This role may require substantial physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects exceeding 300 pounds. Candidates should also have the ability to perform tasks involving manual dexterity, mobility, and visual skills to execute job responsibilities effectively.

Work Environment:
